I didn’t wait until I was exhausted to leave.
That choice surprised some people — but it felt necessary to me.
I’ve watched enough professionals push themselves past their limits, telling themselves they’d rest “after” the busy season, “after” the deadline, “after” things calm down.
But things rarely calm down on their own.
I noticed the early signs: tension carried home, thoughts looping at night, a low-grade vigilance that followed me even on quiet days. Nothing dramatic — just enough to signal that my system was working overtime.
So I chose rest before resentment.
Clarity before collapse.
Leaving earlier than expected wasn’t weakness. It was foresight.
Rest isn’t only about sleep. It’s about environments that allow your mind to stay spacious, your confidence intact, and your effort proportionate to your role.
If you’re standing at the edge of a demanding season, consider this: rest is not something you schedule “after” you’ve proven your endurance.
Sometimes rest is the decision itself.
And sometimes, choosing rest is the most professional thing you can do.
